At around 8:00 a.m. on the first day of the lunar new year in 2026, a whistle sounded at Shenzhen Pinghunan Railway Station as train X8426, loaded with home appliances, electronic products and cross-border e-commerce parcels, departed under the morning sun. The train is bound for Manzhouli port and is expected to arrive in countries such as Russia and Poland in about 14 days.
This first CRE train of the new year represents the “first order” of foreign trade logistics in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area. Since the inaugural “Greater Bay Area Express” CRE train departed from Shenzhen to Duisburg, Germany on August 18, 2020, a total of 975 trains have been operated, transporting over 90,000 TEUs of goods with a total value exceeding 3.1 billion US dollars. The number of routes has expanded from 1 to 27 regular lines, covering 47 countries and regions including Germany and Russia and serving more than 7,000 enterprises in the Greater Bay Area.
